Mentorship is a proven lever for professional success but few college students have the connections to create these relationships on their own. By pairing each Neal Kocurek Scholarship recipient with a mentor well before graduation, unknown avenues of possibility become real opportunities.
Pairing scholars began in 2009, and since that time, 93% of scholars have completed their degrees. We credit this retention rate to a variety of factors, but particularly the support and guidance provided by mentorship.
Mentor Roles & Responsibilities:
- Reach out to your mentee at least once per semester and try to meet up either in-person or virtually
- Encourage and support your student in school. We encourage you to get to know your mentee, learn their academic goals and cheer them on along the way.
- Assist your student in networking and internship opportunities, when possible.
- And, most of all, HAVE FUN! The scholarship program hosts one or more in-person events each year to connect students with their mentors in person.
